Jose Mourinho born on 26th January, 1963 is a Portuguese
football Manager who is currently, the manager on Real Madrid. He
is also known as ‘The Special One’ and is regarded by
some players and coaches as the best manager ever in the
world.
He started his carrier as a player but could not forge a meaningful
carrier and switched to management. He started his coaching carrier
as assistant coach and youth team coach under Sir Bobby Robson at
Sporting Clube de Portugal and later, at FC Porto. He then moved
with him to Barcelona. After Sir Bobby Robson left Barcelona, he
stayed at the club and worked under Louis Van Gaal. In 2002,
Mourinho returned to Porto, but this time as a head coach. Under
his management, Porto won the Primeira League, Taca de Portugal and
the UEFA Cup in 2003. In 2004 followed more success as he won the
league for the second time and also won the UEFA Champions League.
In the Champions League, Porto eliminated teams like Manchester
United, Olympique Lyonnais and Deportivo La Coruna and their only
defeat came against Real Madrid in the group stages. In the final,
Porto defeated AS Monaco 3-0 and lifted the trophy for the first
time in history.
Due to his success, he was connected with a move to Chelsea,
Liverpool and Real Madrid. He preferred a move to Liverpool but
instead moved to Chelsea as Liverpool signed Rafael Benitez.
Benitez joined Chelsea in June 2004. He made several big-name
signings including Michael Essien, Mateja Kezman, Didier Drogba,
Ricardo Carvalho and Didier Drogba. He recruited his staff from FC
Porto which included Baltemar Brito, Rui Faria and Andre
Villas-Boas. During his time at Chelsea, Mourinho won six trophies
including two Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006, two League
Cups in 2005 and 2007, one FA Cup in 2007 and a Community Shield in
2005. However, due to his poor relations with owner Roman Abramovic
and power struggle with sporting director Frank Arnesen, Mourinho
left Chelsea FC in September 2007 by mutual consent.
In June 2008, Mourinho joined Internazionale Milano in Italy,
replacing Roberto Mancini. He made only three signings in the
transfer window which included Mancini, Sulley Muntari and Ricardo
Quaresma. Mourinho won five trophies with Inter, which included two
Serie A titles in 2009 and 2010, one Supercoppa Italiana in 2008,
Coppa Italia in 2010 and UEFA Champions League in 2010. The
Champions League title with Inter was his second ever, the final of
which he won by defeating Bayern Munich 2-0. This was the secong
time that he won the Treble, his first was with Porto. The
Champions League final was his last match for Inter, after which he
moved to Real Madrid in May 2010.
He won his only title with Real Madrid in April 2011, which was the
Coppa del Rey. He defeated Barcelona 1-0 to lift the trophy. It was
Madrid’s first cup in eighteen years.
In his eight seasons in club management, Mourinho has won six
domestic league titles, two UEFA Champions League tiles and one
UEFA Cup.
